Today is Earth Day — and to celebrate we wanted to take a moment to share all the cool new initiatives Casey’s has adopted to promote our environmental sustainability. Casey's purpose is to make the lives of our guests and communities better every day, not only through the services we provide, but also by bringing environmental benefits to our communities.

We are determined to help create a better future. Below, we are proud to highlight some of our new sustainable operations with you!

Environmentally-Friendly Changes at Casey's

  • LED Lighting

Nearly all of Casey’s stores use LED lighting for interior lights, parking lot lights, exterior canopies, cooler/freezer lights, and façade sign lighting — this change has resulted in significant energy savings. Did you know that an LED bulb can drastically reduce energy consumption compared to conventional bulbs and can also last much longer?

  • Construction Efficiencies

Our stores are now designed and built to meet applicable Model Energy Codes, including but not limited to energy efficient HVAC, refrigeration, exhaust and water-heating equipment, and energy efficient windows and doors.

  • Water Reduction

Our company has implemented several water-usage initiatives, including rain-sensing irrigation practices and low-flow faucet aerators, restroom equipment, and other hardware.

  • Recycling

We have adopted a comprehensive recycling program throughout our stores and distribution centers, including cardboard/packaging, pallets, metal, appliances, and light bulbs. In addition, our Store Support Center and related facilities have implemented a number of paper-reduction initiatives and related paper recycling programs.

  • Ethanol Blended Fuel and Biodiesel

Ethanol blended fuel is now available at all stores with higher blend sales exceeding three million gallons per month. In addition, biodiesel is available at over 1,000 stores, and over half the diesel fuel sold is blended with 5% or more biodiesel.

  • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Recently, we’ve installed electric vehicle charging stations at over 20 stores, with plans to install more throughout 2021.

  • Transportation

We have reduced the emissions impact of our transportation fleet through a focus on mileage/route efficiencies, delivery schedules, vehicle idling, and more fuel-efficient vehicles.

  • Community Solar Gardens

In certain states, we have pledged to participate in “community solar gardens,” which helps offsets anywhere from 25%-100% of energy usage at participating stores in those areas.

  • Cage-Free Egg Commitment

Casey’s has committed to work with its suppliers to source 100% of its eggs from cage-free hens by 2025, based upon available supply and affordability to its customers.

We are always looking for new ways to help improve our carbon footprint and our team’s experts are continually exploring new sustainable options. If you have any ideas on changes you would like to see implemented throughout our stores, please feel free to contact us.
