Earth Day is our annual reminder that caring for the planet isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s part of who we are. At Casey’s, sustainability isn’t a side project. It guides us how we operate, how we invest and how we invest in the future.
Over the past year our teams have moved full speed ahead on renewable energy, waste reduction, smarter operations and strong governance. Here’s a look at what’s been happening across Casey’s footprint.
We’re using more solar power than ever, and we’re just getting started.
Our Joplin Missouri distribution center now has 1,408 solar panels that generate about 1,700 kWh each day which helps power refrigeration while cutting Scope 2 emissions.
Forty-five stores are part of community solar gardens that supply 25 to 100 percent of their energy from clean sources.
We’ve added solar panels to 82 refrigerated trailers with 133 more planned. Solar will soon be standard on every new trailer.
Behind the scenes our teams are making sure our stores and operations run smarter.
We reported our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and began assessments for relevant Scope 3 categories.
LED lighting, upgraded HVAC systems and improved refrigeration are reducing energy use, in many stores by 50 percent or more.
Waste and water strategies have improved across stores, distribution and fleet operations.
Efficiency goes beyond energy. It includes equipment, processes and day-to-day operations.
